why comparing outdated promotional material to make the absurd claim that they’ve been using the exact same model for the past 5 years is dumb: a visual essay
even if it wasnt the same model it doesnt change the fact that all their female characters faces have to always look a certain way (short heart-shaped head, big prominent eyes, tiny upturned nose, small lips, etc) but their male characters don’t. at all
even if this post is only pointing out that it’s not the same model, ignorant disney apologists are just going to see this and shout SEE I TOLD YOU SO THESE DESIGNS ARE PERFECT! and think there’s nothing wrong with the way disney designs their characters and the fact that their women have to meet a certain criteria yet the men can look however they want
thank u chickenmcnuggie. a-fucking-men
I think some miss the point. The fact that Disney makes women all very similar in physical features (big eyes, long eyelashes, tiny nose, small lips, perfect teeth, thin eyebrows) is a problem. From that, i can understand that animators at Disney think the only way a woman could look beautiful is that to have big eyes, little nose… etc.
And it’s not okay. This signifies that women with little eyes, short eyelashes, aquiline nose, crooked teeth are not beautiful.
Beauty is everywhere, you don’t have to look like a Disney princess or a supermodel to be pretty.
Okay but how about little girls who watch these films? I’ve seen tons of little girls saying they wanted to grow and be beautiful Disney Princesses. If one of these girls, for instance, has a quite big nose, or has braces, she can believe she’s not pretty.
EXUSE ME (not you jackfrostbeliever :) ) BUT LOOK AT HOW MUCH THE MALE FACES DIFFER IN COMPARISON
THEY ARE DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. They’ve all got different proportions. different sized nose, small or big eye. Long and short face shapes. Why are the guys a decent representation of variety in humans and the women aren’t? WHERE ARE THE GIRLS WITH LONG FACES AND SMALLER EYES? THEY ARE JUST AS BEAUTIFUL.
YEAH! That’s why Hiro looks exactly like Hiccup! Go watch a Dreamworks movie, THAT’S differing in female character designs.
Can we stop putting the blame on “animators” as if they do everything? Character designers (and directors/producers) control what the characters look like, animators make them move and act.
